hi I miss catton and I am excited that you're he joining our Grizzly family next year I taught at Copper Hills High School for the past thirteen years and all those years I've taught AP European History I'm here to invite you to take your PIN history next year I'm sorry I can't be there in person but I hope that I can answer some of the most common question that students have about my class the first and most common question is is it hard I'm not going to lie and try to tell you that it's easy it's not we go through the material quickly and we cover 570 years of history but what I can tell you is you got in the taste of my class what I found with most students if they get used to it and they adapt to it and they find that it's not as difficult as they originally thought it was the next most commonly asked question is homework is there I tell my students that I expect about three to four hours of homework per week as I've talked to other teachers at Copper Hills classes that seems to be about the average for most most AP what I recommend to my students is that they spend about 20 to 30 minutes per night I think that's where the common misperception has from about my class having so much homework so many of my students procrastinate and wait until the last day to get things done and then they're spending a whole night 3 to 4 hours trying to get caught up when you do that week after week it becomes really overwhelming and it feels like there's a ton of homework I don't micromanage so so I will give you each week usually a chapter of now that you have to take from the textbook and primary source document that you read and analyze I'll let you decide if you want to spend 20 to 30 minutes per night or if you want to wait until the night before and get it done in a few hours in one night that will be totally up to you to decide the next question is how to test work now on all of my tests I use AP standard question which of course means they're not easy but don't feel like it's in your best interest if I give you questions that are too easy when we're trying to get ready for the ACT test I get that their heart so I always curve my test based on the class averages in addition to that also allow my students to do recapture you can come into my classroom and redo the questions that you miss using any resources available to you you can use your note you can use Google anything that's going to help you figure out what the right answer is which means on any test that you take in my class you can get up to an A- another commonly asked question is is there summer homework in a few weeks once you signed up for my my class you will be getting a letter and there will be summer homework but is extra credit so if you choose to do it great you start out the class with an A+ and you have a lot of background knowledge this really going to help you as we get started with the material another question is I'm busy with so many activities am I going to be a am I going to have time I understand that you got a lot going on you're involved in a lot of activities some of you were going to be in sports and in theater dance to beat music class better taking a lot of a lot of your time what I would say to you is just try try AP European History and if you find after the first quarter that it's just not going to work for you and that it's too much and Euro I fully support you in choosing to get out of the class do I have to take honors English with AP European History the answer is no you don't have to take them together although I wouldn't reduce to take honors English in there and the literature as well what does an average class. Look like I'm a Storyteller that's what I love about history's most exciting story in the world real about real people and real things that happen I do spend a lot of time doing that but we also will be various activity looking at primary sources in analyzing them learning how to do the writing there will be three different kinds of essays that you're required to do on the AP test so we'll send time learning how to write those days and actually writing them but a lot the time I spend telling you the stories of History ultimately the question is why should I take it first I want to acknowledge of course I'm biased I love your pee in history passionate about the story in this class we're going to explore politics and War we're going to reflect on art and literature and use it when is delve into the everyday lives of of app help us understand the world around us it helps us understand why we're here where we've come from and it needs and helps us understand a little bit about our future I don't know history repeat but I do feel like it quite often times mimics itself and one of my themes in the class is there are no villain or heroes in history there's just people people that maybe you think you know but maybe you will find something new that you didn't expect and it's very busy this class offers college credit taking the class itself fulfill the requirements for world history that you need for graduation if you take the AP exam and you pass it you can get potential 66 college credit hours I know that a lot of choices next year of classes that you can take I hope though that you might consider taking AP European History if you have further questions please contact me at McKenzie black cat at jordandistrict.org thanks for listening
