I found it okay did I barely get started so we're going to go over like some tips and strategies for the math act and then we will second practice problems the funnest part so you can do this the ACT is a national test its Concepts that all high school students here at Ackley you've seen all these Concepts before so what you need to do is learn the types of questions that they see to act will ask and we'll go over that and then really you should be studying the ones that you don't know don't waste your time studying things you already know how to do am honestly the best way to study especially for the bad things he has practice practice practice so can I do some practice problems and then I think if you guys checked out the book from the library there's practice test in there so just whenever you're trying to study this practice practice practice hey so the scoring for the math the average national average for the math Act is a 21 and that is getting 30 out of 60 questions right so we are shooting for a 50% day unless you want to get higher obviously but this is breakdown if they're 65 skins you got 60 minutes so it's kind of 1 minute for question so that's why you got to practice okay so somebody are any of the questions are all three questions there's going to be about 33 algebra questions about 23 geometry and the four trip questions hey the national average on the east he is a 21 so that's only getting half of the questions right okay so some strategies first thing I would recommend the most skip questions you don't know how you immediately if you got your question you read over it and you're like no idea skip it cuz you can always come back you want to get done with all the questions that you know for sure how to do cuz if you spend a whole bunch of time what if you'll need question number 40 but you knew how to do number 45 that's a point that you missed skip all the ones if you don't know how to do it immediately and then go back and go through the ones you skip it. Probably like the best advice I was Abram a PCP that you only have one minute for question especially if the way you do all the ones you can do immediately maybe even thirty seconds and then that saved you all that time to save for the harder question okay the number to is find your weaknesses and drill drill drill for skills that are tested on the ACT so there's a lot of different things there's integers rational numbers probability operations functions they all this stuff when you're going through problems are doing practice test if you noticed hey I'm missing all of the probability questions those are the you want to study if you're getting all of the questions that are just like solve for x if you're getting all those right don't study that you already know how to do it just study what you don't know how did you focus on the most important skills cake the 77% of the test is made up of the skills on the left so numbers rational algebra functions algebra operation manager's single variable algebra and plane geometry is that 77% of the Dust is so that's what you should be focusing on and then the other 23% of the test is the rest of geometry and trig and word problems is a focus on focus on like algebra and basic geometry freestyles those are the biggest portion of the test I'm taking her for is used a realistic and quality sources hey if you go to the ACT website I'm sure maybe for this matter classes if you just Google like act a sample problem it has a couple steps on the ACT website that you could go to and just take Play Eminem there's also the problem your book have to take a test practice timing yourself since you can do questions in 1 minute see if you can do the whole test 60 minutes but just practice practice practice and there's a lot of resources if you Google practice ACT test the next best thing is understand all your mistakes if you do a problem and you got it wrong figure out why you did it wrong so that you can get it right the next time don't just keep trying to keep trying to keep trying to figure out what you're doing wrong that's not right what you're doing wrong on every single question and if you're a little unsure on questions maybe study those two if you know how to do them though move on study other stuff hey Chuck Norris is use different strategies to solve problems so like one strategy is plugging in numbers or the answers when the test does says k a f of x equals x squared plus 24 x equals 3 and all the answers would solve for x x equals 4 5 6 7 and you're not sure how to do it let them in see which one equals three day so if you're not sure how to solve triangle about it in a different way trying to reason if you're going to try and guess like an educated guess if you can like cancel out they will I at least know it's not these two that increases your chances of getting Acer try different strategies monitor your time again it's one minute for question is basically the time you have 60 Minutes for 60 Questions and just remember easy presidents are worth one point and hard to push that they're worth twice so if you're spending a lot of time get all the easy ones done first so that you get all those easy points and then move on to the hey do you guys know that you could use for online but write the ACT is online change for the cake so there's a couple things with it being online if you guys want to go look at what it's going to look like you can get you have to be computer you're going to get on you guys remember where you went when you click it on apps when you took the Aspire you like clicked on Max and went to test that that's where the ACT is here to click on there once you get into the test done what are the top right corner and pick choose a different customer and then you're going to take the ACT and then under the sign-in information it has practice test so you can go and look at what the formats going to be like I see they've got a graphing calculator it's actually does most if used as much before that your graphing calculator do you have not use desmo and get familiar with that cuz you going to have that available to you and then you can look at like you know how it is formatted you can skip questions you can book my questions and stuff like that. So I'll leave all the way if you guys want the instructions on how to do the practice test can I see you write it down Play Everybody Get It okay so like I said follow these instructions to log on you do have to be on a school Chromebook getting from the media center or go to one of your teachers who has a Chromebook cart grade learning I'm on Friday or something okay okay oh yeah and I'm not just a note does Moe's have is anybody not used as most before so if you were to talk a little bit more about like some tricks with does most next class but make sure you're familiar with that if you are not I think you can still use your actual calculator but the does most one is like programmed in the 80s usually a little more user-friendly than your actual calculator hey Evelyn last guest on every question you don't know I'm sure you've heard this if you've gone to the other act classes pick a letter and unless you have a reason take that it's not that letter yes that letter on every question your desk a statistically if you have to guess on questions and you pick random ones each time you will get less of them correct than if you guess the same letter every time cancel if you have to guess what as soon as you get my test debut like quesadillas say I'm picking better be on every when you have to guess pick let her be or let her see whatever letter you want to stick with the same letter and statistically you'll get money percent of them right where I was with guessing totally random it's kind of like well you might get this one but maybe like it's just it's not as if it's okay does anyone have any questions on like the setup of the test anything that we talked about so far yeah okay so if there's no other questions then we're going to start working on practice problems so hold on I close my slide I'm so when we do these practice problems again we're going to try and do them in one minute and one minute for the test so get out of peace paper the calculator if you have one or one of use one play a couple notes getting some out I have some practice ACT test like print it out but I didn't like I forgot to make copies for you guys so next bus if you come next time I think I have three or four just practice ACT test if you can the more has to practice I'll have copies for you guys too hey is everybody ready as we go through these problems I'm going to give you one minute so that you can get an idea of what the time is like okay so you're going to get one minute try and solve the problem some of them are easier than the others just like I said this on the ACT questions are in order of difficulty easy are blast are they going to be ready for those who ever made the ACT thought that was their order of difficulty as we get further and we'll get to harder one and if we don't finish will finish text I'm okay here's your first problem you have one minute what is 4% of 1100 he got less than 30 seconds left hope you all are good I'm here today what weather did we get any good 44k so this is a pretty easy one right so again make sure you go through do all the easy ones knock them out cuz it's 150 wet 10-second if you decide to type in the calculator right if that so do all the easy ones and then spend all your time on the hard ones okay here's the next one x + 4 * x - 5 equals what hey that's time what letter do we get GiGi good okay is anybody I forgot to ask him last one just anybody want to go over this one really this is why I'm here. hey really quick we're just going to go over this for people who need it so we multiply this out okay oh no I broke it okay so we have x + 4 * x - 5 we need to distribute everything in the first 12 everything in the second one so we're going to do x x x what's next text x squared k x * -5 is -5 x 4 x x is or x 4 x - 5 - 20 the mind - 5x + 4x those are like terms with x squared - x - 5 + 4 is -1 - 20 any questions on that okay I'm ready for the next one cave next we've got if X Plus y equals one and why am I not your x minus y equals 1 + y equals what any guesses the answer is bigger out play It's better be hey it's so this is what I want to talk about this really quick cuz there's two ways you can do this you could do this mathematically or never can you talk did it go fast yeah you can just use logic we're doing x + y + x - y either one you do they both equal ones that means why does not change exit all stopping why has to be 0 let me send case you can't do that or you can solve algebraically which is a little bit longer but you can do it that way does anybody want to go over solving algebraic equation that's why you practicing hey we brought x + y equals 1 x - y equals 1 hey so I'm at the easiest way is to just these guys together what's x + x 2x + y - y 0 equals 1 + 120 wait hold on we want to solve for y. my bad as well yeah okay so actually instead of doing that we're going to solve 4 x my word okay solve for x on the second one we get what's happening okay we get x equal I swear I'm not doing anything he's moving around trying to draw x equals 1 plus why they were solving it for X because we want everything in terms of why since that's what we want hey then we take this x value and we're going to plug it into the so we get 1 + y + y + y equal 10 then we get 10 + 2y equals 1 -1 from bookbags 2 y equal 0 10 / 2 y equals 0 that makes sense. Hey so that's a perfectly fine way to do it but if you can try and think about these differently it was a little bit quicker to just snowed that the why doesn't change it right so either way just practice some different strategies when you're trying to solve these okay let's do the next one what is the slope of the line containing the points - 27 + 3 - 3 a lot of time so if you didn't finish solving it that's okay we're just practicing getting it done this time what did you guys get for answer okay good number 2 - 2 okay so for those of us who did not get this one's did anybody I won't make you stay so this is an equation that it might be good is memorize the slope is y1 - Y2 / X1 - X2 can you just find the difference in your two white values / the difference in your 2X right we have rise that's the difference between values overrun that's are slow right so difference between why is difference between exit is it doesn't matter which one you make is X1 y1 and X2 I too as long as - 27 + 3 - 3 as long as if you make this one why one than this one has to be X1 whichever one you pick two come first the same one the same point has to go first on the bottom that make sense so when you get this when you should have done you could do it either way you can do 7 - -3 / -2 - 3 notice house 7 and 2 volts comes first and then the negative dream free both comes back in zone 7 - -3 is 10 2 - 3 is -5 when she gives us -2 and you could have done - 3 - 7 + -3 - 7 + -3 - 2 - - you get doesn't matter which one you do first as long as you do the same one first on the top and the bottom hey any questions picture you know that one cuz I don't come up honestly on all the practice test I looked over this week I felt so that's a good one to know okay do the next one that's not what I wanted hey next problem this is a plane geometry problem if the measure of an angle is 37.5 degrees what is the measure of its supplement hey I forgot to do a timer but is everyone is everyone done what you get good D hey this is another thing that shows up a lot on the ACT you need to know what supplementary mean his supper Hillary is when two angles add up to 180 so if you don't know that write it down supplementary to angle added together equals 180 is over the spray all you have to do is type in your calculator 180 - 37.5 and then you should have got 140 2.5 hey that's all you have to do so sometimes it's just knowing the vocab word and this one was nice it has a picture but it does won't always have a picture so make sure you know supplementary to angles that add up to 180 any questions on that one hey let's do the next one geometry what is the sine of angle a in the Triangle below so Angela if you can't tell is the bottom-left one hey that's time what you guys get h k so this is one that may be a little bit right okay so one thing I want to play here we go over this so far how long has it taken you to solve these problems not long right so again I really I'm going to keep saying this cuz it's the best thing to do is go through all the easy problem first and then spend your time on the other ones okay so let's go over this so we need to do that sound familiar Okay so we've got this triangle right and here's our angle a Jesus, if you remember sohcahtoa a spine is opposite over hypotenuse so that means the spine of a is going to be the opposite side which is sick over the hypotenuse which is always the long side so 6 / 10 it went if you put it in your calculator works if you just know that hey so some of the truck problems or Justice that's not hard you just have to remember sohcahtoa right so that's another thing write this down if you don't know it sohcahtoa sign is opposite over cosine is adjacent over hypotenuse and tangent is opposite over adjacent hey and if you need more help on that there's lots of videos online any questions with this phone before I move on take a look at the next one hey a 6-speed is my example of kind of like the easy problems okay okay by G-Eazy I mean they weren't long right they just took one or two steps just have to remember what the steps are so now we're going to practice some word problems so our first problem is what is the total cost of 2.5 lb of bananas at $0.34 per pound + 2.5 tomato is 66 Pence Pence per pound let's see how kind of long one minute can be so if you if you get through all these easy ones that's so much extra time on your Hardware hey what letter did you get see good queso word problems look scary every time a math teacher says we're going to do problems from Costco have no we're going to die but know this wasn't hard right you just did 2.5 * 2.34 + 2.5 * 2.66 in your calculator right that's all you had to do so don't freak out at the word problems just read them some of them are really easy like this and sometimes some of them are tricky but a lot of them you just have to read it and it's just saying it in a lot more words hey any questions on this one yeah so I talked to the desk coordinator she said do you get like a test ticket like where you're at your name and stuff where I don't something but you'll have a paper and you just have to use that so you won't get like your own line of paper but like the back of never been tested him like so you will have paper so if you need to write stuff down you can write it down another thing I forgot to mention earlier especially since its online you can go look back in like there's a menu to see which questions and answers answered and which ones you have in but if you want to write down like at the top of your paper right down the ones you're skipping cuz you have no idea write down maybe in another group the ones you're skipping you think you might be able to do but you just want to get all the easy ones done first had to make make some sort of system okay but there are ones you can bookmark them on the test like you can put a little so I can buy it and then there's like a review button that if you click on it it shows all the questions and it has like which one's answered which ones are bookmark a k you are allowed to go back yes yeah so if you skip a question you can go right back to it if you've already answered a question maybe your Wizard and you finished everything in 50 minutes if you want to look over some of the hard ones yeah that I'm not a hundred percent sure on I will check in with the testing coordinator so that I can know the answer for next time I guess they would like you try and stick to the one looking I guess but I'll check with her and see if they might pay any other questions hey let's do the next one was question oh Gracie yeah there's a little thing it says bookmark and you can click it or put a block on it okay next hey this is one again it looks really worried but don't overthink it the relationship between temperature expected in degrees Fahrenheit and degrees Celsius is given by the formula s equals 9/5 * 3 + 32 is the temperature is 14 degrees in Fahrenheit what is the degree in Celsius hey that time hey what you guys get -10 is the answer so we're going to go over this one and this is an example we're going to go over to Waze day cuz there's one way where you can solve it and then if you're totally lost I'm not half no how to solve it or maybe get to a different problem cuz this one's not too bad you don't know how to solve that we're going to go over that hey so we've got 14 equals 9/5 C + 32 what's 32 hey first thing we're going to do is a -32 we want to get the see all by itself they're going to move the 32 over -18 equals 950 a and then to get rid of a fraction you multiply by the reciprocal so we're going to * 5/9 the reciprocal of 9/5 you just flip it but whatever you do to one side you have to do the other hey so we get see these guys cancel out equals 5/9 * -18 -10 okay any questions on solving it hey not really quick I just want to go over this is one where you can use a different strategy if you totally don't know how to solve it you can plug the answers in a cuz you know the equation is or or 950 + 32 so plug-in - 10 if we plug in and you can do this with all of them so we can do 9/5 divided by -10 3 * -10 + 32 and we got 14 which is what it's supposed to be equal so we're done and if that was wrong you just move on to the next one plug-in -12 see if you get the right answer and go until you get right answer hey so sometimes that's another what's your problem if you totally don't know how to do it plug in the answers hey any questions or do the next one hey a map is laid out on the standard XY coordinate plane how long in the units is an airplane path on the map as a airplane flies long a straight line from City a which is a 2014 VDB which is at 5 hey that's time that is time I start the time when I started reading the questions but just remember that as your timing yourself you have to a question we have to read the questions and solve it hey when you guys get a lots of different answers the correct answer is G games the let's go over this hey for this we're going to do something called the distance formula okay if you do not remember this I would write this down the distance formula is the square root of X1 - X2 squared plus y1 - Y2 Square and that's how you find the distance between any two points so honestly there will probably be some sort of problem might not be airplanes but there'll be some sort of problem will they might can you say how far away are these two points from each other there is probably going to be on there somewhere hey this is another thing to memorize it looks a little bit scary but one day they'll remember it is it basic Pythagorean theorem remember Pythagorean theorem a squared plus b squared equals c squared right here so if you think about it is two points right point a and point B so when we're doing X1 - X2 that's finding this time correct when we're doing y1 - Y2 that's finding this side so what we're doing really as we're doing this side squared c squared plus a squared and then equals c squared what to get rid of since we just want to see we take the square root of it so that's kind of another way to remember it is it's basically I factory in theorem hey I forgot what the points were so we had 2014 + 510 so the only but I only tried it down the distance between them if the √ again it doesn't matter which one one in which point you pick is Silas long as it's the same for each one is so X1 I'm just going to stay the top 120 is one wants to the remedy to 20 - 5 squared + 14 - 10 squared okay and then you can do that you can type in your calculator whatever you want to do 20 - 5 is 1515 squared is 225 14 - 10 is four or Square 2016 at those together you get the square root of 241 questions on that one hey so that one is one where there's not necessarily a different strategy you could think of if you draw that on your graph if the distance formula looks too hard and you can't remember always drop picture especially when geometry we've got 2014 and 5:10 and anytime you have a diagonal line you can make a triangle and all you have to remember is Pythagorean theorem so that's another trick draw a picture if it's a graph a lot of times when it's a graph you'll find some for a triangle in there and then you can just use a Nigerian theorem which hopefully we know by now okay any questions on that one alright let's see what time is it here one point of the next question I just as going to give you an overview of what we're doing the next to class just so you guys know if you want to come to them or if you want to make sure you come to one the next class we're going to go over Desmos calculator tricks and then we're going to finish going over whatever problems we don't get to on this one cuz there's 18 only halfway through welding at 9 three to finish out these ones and go through the hard ones next time you know artist cuz those are the last ones and then the class after that I'm going to print out a 50-question test going to give you guys a 15 minutes to do it and then we'll go over it so that you know if you want to make sure that you come to one of those and I think they're both in the okay next question a person to M tall casts a shadow 3 meters long at the same time a telephone pole cast a shadow 12 M long how many meters tall is the pole if I were you I'd draw picture hey when we get Steve number eight or what is 8 m tall look over this one this one is one two guys as pension almost done this one is one that's kind of worded weird and you have to get used to the wording and draw picture to figure out what's going okay so the easiest way to do this we've got a pool trying to figure out how tall the pool is 12 meters long and then we have a person who's two meters tall and their Shadows is 3 m long hey so what we can do as we can take that make a similar triangle so this trying inside the triangle where he's tall and then this bottom length is 3 m long and then all this is the proportion if you have similar triangles you can set up proportions hey there's two different ones you can shut up you can either say ex is 212 right that side is to this side as 2 is to three hey or you can also do exes 2 to both the short side as 12 is to 3 both the long sides either one of those and you solve it and you should get 8 okay any questions on that one hey so I can draw picture pictures are very helpful specially when triangles through in hey let's try and do one more before time Runs Out is everybody ready hey the hiking path to the top of the mountain after the deepest space in English 20° with the horizontal and it made him this constant flow for 500 as Illustrated below which of the following is the closest approximation this changing evaluation in meters section and this one tells you the cosine of 22 cosine of 20 and a tangent of 20 Hayes will give you those so that's maybe a hint maybe you want to use one of those k you should have got g170 hey so let's go over this one let's do 500 hey this is another one where we're going to use sine cosine or tangent we have to figure out which one we're going to use so how do we know which one to use and the access office in the 500 is the hypotenuse so over sohcahtoa which one uses the opposite in the hypotenuse fine so we do sign of 20° is opposite X over hypotenuse 500 and we want to stop for exit or going to * by 500 spell 500 times the sine of 20 equals X and then I already told us the spine of 20 is free for so really all you're doing is 5 Good Times .34 and your calculator and
